The Brisbane event involves a 4.5km and 8km walk and run, starting and finishing at the Cultural Forecourt, the Parklands South Bank. *For more details on the Brisbane event and registration closing dates see the information below.

If running and walking isn't your thing you can still join in the fun of the day by volunteering to help out.

Alternatively, you can come along and support all walkers and runners and join in the entertainment and activity taking place around the course. All participants are in the running for spot prizes, given out on the day.   

Remember to fill in a tribute card to wear on the day in memory of a loved one or with words of encouragement to someone currently undergoing treatment. You can now also add your tribute message to our new online tribute wall. Create your tribute card here.

Event information kit: 

Your Event Information Kit will include: race number, Participant Information Booklet, timing device (runner’s only), and tribute card (if requested during registration).

Event Information Kits will commence to be sent out from Monday 22 April 2013.

Each entrant will receive their own Event Information Kit. If you entered a number of people at the same address then each person will be mailed their own Information Kit.
* Please note that the individual kits may arrive on different days even if you registered at the same time.

An Event Information Kit and race number will be mailed to all participants whose registration is received before midnight on Wednesday 1 May 2013.

If you register after midnight on Wednesday 1 May 2013 you will need to collect your race number at the number pick up marquee located in the assembly area at Courier Mail Piazza, Little Stanley Street, South Bank on Saturday between 2pm and 5pm or on the morning of the event, from 6.00am onwards.

Please note that merchandise will be mailed separately to the Event Information Kits.

Runners: 

Runners will be sent a timing device with their race packs. Please attach your timing device to your shoe and ensure it is attached correctly as you will not receive a time if you do not have a timing device. The timing device must be returned at the finish line, if it is not returned there will be a $25 charge. If you accidentally take the timing device home, please return it to the below address by Friday 31 May 2013.

Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your event in order to allow plenty of time to register and warm up.

Registration area will be located in the Courier Mail Piazza near Little Stanley Street Lawn, 300m south-east of the Cultural Forecourt.

The course: 

The assembly area is located 300m south-east of the Cultural Forecourt on Little Stanley Street, South Bank, Brisbane. The event will start from South Bank and will travel along Montague Road and onto Riverside Drive alongside the beautiful Brisbane River. The finish is at the exit of the Cultural Centre Tunnel.

The 4.5km and 8km runs are separate to the 4.5km and 8km walks. Both events go in a clockwise direction around the circuit.

Getting there: 

The 2013 Mother’s Day Classic is located in the heart of South Bank, Brisbane’s main cultural destination.

Road closures

There will be a number of road closures in and around the event site. It is highly recommended that you use public transport to get to and from the venue.

Road closures covering the course(s) will be implemented for the duration of the event. There will be some vehicles on the course – event personnel and local access traffic.

Normal road rules apply. Follow directions of Police, event staff and course marshals at all times.

Public transport

South Bank is conveniently located in the heart of Brisbane with frequent public transport available including local buses, trains and ferry connections.

Train:

There are two train stations in South Bank;

  • South Bank Station (accessed from Tribune Street) – Best option to access to the start line area.
  • South Brisbane Railway Station (accessed via Melbourne Street).

Bus:

South Bank has two Busway Stations available to visitors. They are located in Melbourne Street (Cultural Centre Station) and at the corner of Colchester and Tribune Streets (South Bank Busway Station).

Brisbane City Buses stop at several locations around the South Bank precinct. For further information visit http://www.translink.com.au/.

CityCats and Ferries:

The CityCat Terminal is located outside the riverside restaurants on the Clem Jones Promenade. CityCats travel upstream as far as the University of Queensland and downstream to Brett’s Wharf, Hamilton.

The Inner City Ferry is located at South Bank 1 & 2 and goes to the City, North Quay and Kangaroo Point. For more information on timetables visit http://www.translink.com.au/.

CityCycle:

There are a number of CityCycle Stations available surrounding the parklands visit www.citycycle.com.au for full details.

Car parking

Parking will be available at the Parklands, South Bank underground car park which is accessible via Tribune Street. For full parking fees visit www.visitSouthbank.com.au.

Parking is also available at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre please visit http://www.bcec.com.au/attend-an-event/car-parking.aspx. Parking can be accessed by Merivale Street and Grey Street.

If you choose to park on the street, please obey all parking restrictions as per normal.

Event day information: 

An information marquee will be located at the Cultural Forecourt. If you have any queries please go to the information marquee.

Timing device

Timing devices will be mailed out with your race pack (to runner’s only).

For those who enter online after midnight on Wednesday 1 May 2013, you will need to collect your timing device, along with your race number in the morning of the event at the number pick up collection are located in the Courier Mail Piazza. Please return the timing device at the finish line after your run. Failure to return timing devices will result in a $25 charge for its replacement.

Race Numbers

All runners and walkers need to pin their race number on the front of their top before arriving at the event. Anyone without a race number will not be permitted to start the event. Race numbers will be mailed out to all participants who enter before midnight on Wednesday 1 May 2013. Participants who enter after this date will need to collect their race number on Saturday between 2pm and 5pm or on the morning of the event from the number pick up area located in the Courier Mail Piazza.

Assembly area  

The assembly area is located 300m south-east of the Cultural Forecourt on Little Stanley Street, the Parklands South Bank, Brisbane (near the Courier Mail Piazza).

Please arrive at the assembly area at least half an hour before your start time. You will be escorted to the start line on Russell Street, prior to the commencement of your event.

First aid stations

First aid will be stationed close to the finish line and a bike course crew will be roaming both the 4.5km and 8km events. If you require medical assistance while out on the course, please notify the nearest course marshal and they will contact the appropriate personnel to assist you.

Water stations

Water is provided at drink stations on the course and at the finish line.

Clothing storage

A gear tent will be located at the Courier Mail Piazza, South Bank Parklands for storage of your clothing during the run/walk. Bikes cannot be placed in the gear tent. Please use the tear off strip from your race number to attach to your backpack or clothing bag.

Please do not place valuables in the gear tent as we cannot accept responsibility for valuables lost or stolen.

Food court

A variety of food options will be available on the day, including coffee carts, sausage sizzle and other food snacks and drinks.

Safety at the event

For safety reasons please DO NOT bring dogs, rollerblades, skateboards or bikes on the course. Prams are permitted on the course, however please start towards the back of the group.

Activities at the event: 

The Mother’s Day Classic includes lots of extra activities for kids and adults. These include warm-up aerobics, a food court, entertainment plus a kid’s activity area with face painting. Kids can enter the Mother’s Day Classic to walk or run so long as they have permission from their parent or guardian.

Prizes: 

All participants receive a 2013 medallion, which cleverly converts to a key ring and lanyard.

Male and female overall winners of the 4.5km and 8km run will receive a great prize, further details to be provided closer to the event.

Age category winner for the 4.5km and 8km runs will be presented at the event. Age categories are as follows - U15, U18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

Trophies will be awarded to:

  • The largest school category sponsored by NGS Super
  • The largest corporate team (less than 100 employees) category
  • The largest corporate team (more than 100 employees) category
  • The largest Community Groups and Clubs Category
  • The largest Family and Friends Category
  • The largest Gym / Personal Fitness / Wellbeing Category

Spot prizes - all participants are eligible to win great spot prizes including weekend packages, meals and gift baskets.

Tribute wall: 

Tribute cards can be attached to your top in support or memory of a loved one touched by breast cancer. Tribute cards can be downloaded from the website, requested via the registration process or collected on day from the information marquee.

Presentation ceremonies

The run presentation ceremonies will be held on the main stage with awards given to overall run winners for first place. It is expected that winners are present to accept their prize.

Presentation times for both events will begin at 10.15am and will conclude by 11.30am. Team awards and presentations will occur on the main stage in the assembly area during this time.

Spot prizes will be randomly handed out and will be available for collection from the main stage.

Runner’s age category winners will be listed on the website and medals will be sent out to the winners within two weeks.

Important information: 
  • No pets, rollerblades, skateboards or bikes are permitted on the course. Prams are permitted, but please start towards the back of the group.
  • There will be a large number of people at the event, so make sure you use the meeting points provided.
  • Ensure you keep an eye on your children and organise specific points to meet before the event in case someone gets lost.
  • Be aware that you are a pedestrian on public roads and please follow instructions from race officials.
  • Please remember to dress according to the weather (warm clothing, rain jacket, hat and sunscreen) and wear comfortable shoes.
