What is the Mother’s Day Classic?

The Mother’s Day Classic is the biggest community fundraising event for breast cancer research in Australia. It involves thousands of women, men, girls and boys of all ages and takes place around the country on Mother’s Day each year.

Who can enter the event?

Anyone can enter! Children, adults, families, school teams, corporate teams, friends, neighbours etc. We welcome everyone!

Who organises the event?

The events are organised by Woment in Super - a national network of women working in the superannuation and finance industries.

Why was the event started?

This initiative was inspired by the knowledge that research is gradually improving the survival rate of the one in nine women who are diagnosed with breast cancer during their life. Improving the quality of life for those with breast cancer is a valuable and rewarding investment into our community.

How can I fundraise and get friends to donate?

Everyone can fundraise, once you register for an event in your city you will be sent an email with your own online fundraising page and url.

Alternatively, you can download a form from our fundraising page. Find our tips and advice and all the fundraising help you need from our fundraising page.

Is the event only for women?

No. The Mother’s Day Classic is open to men, women and children of all ages.

Can I buy any merchandise?

Yes. The 2014 merchandise is availalbe online soon. Postage will not commence until February 2014.

Where does the money raised go?

The Mother’s Day Classic raises funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that promotes and supports research into the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

How much of the money raised goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation?

Every dollar that you donate or fundraise and more than two thirds of your registration goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This is used for research projects aimed at improving the detection, treatment and outcomes for those who are affected by breast cancer.

Because there are costs associated with managing and staging the events across Australia, part of your ticket price together with support from our corporate sponsors goes towards their payment.

In 2013 your combined efforts and the generosity of our sponsors enabled us to give $5 million to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) for its research programs. That made it a cumulative total of $19.8 million since the event began in 1998.

How can I contribute financially?

You can contribute in a number of ways. The best way is to participate in the Mother’s Day Classic event and fundraise by getting sponsored for your run or walk.

If you would prefer to assist by donating directly, please visit our donations page.

How much has been raised over the years?

To date, $19.8 million has been raised for the National Breast Cancer Foundation since the event began in 1998.

Can my company sponsor the Mother’s Day Classic?

Absolutely! We actively encourage corporate organisations to get involved with the Mother’s Day Classic and would love to hear from you. Please visit our sponsorship opportunities page on this site for more information.

Can I transfer my entry or obtain a refund?

Entry fees are non-refundable as per the terms and conditions. You may like to consider it as a contribution to the Mother's Day Classic event and the NBCF.

How do I pay for my entry?

The Mother’s Day Classic accepts valid Visa, Mastercard  or American Express credit cards. Money orders and cheques are also acceptable and should be made payable to Mother’s Day Classic (address for mailing is on the entry form). We request that you please not send cash in the mail.

What does my entry fee provide me?

You mean besides a great day with your friends and family? You will be provided with a race kit that contains your race bib and useful event information. Also each participant will receive a Mother’s Day Classic commemorative medallion which converts to a key ring and lanyard, and a showbag full of goodies on the day.

Is my registration tax deductible?

Donations and funds raised from sponsorship are tax deductible (if over $2), but your registration is not tax deductible.

While the majority of your registration payment goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, you are participating in an event and thus receiving a service. This means that event registration does not qualify as a tax deduction.

The Mother’s Day Classic is a morning to get together and do something healthy with family and friends and to celebrate and support those who have been affected by breast cancer.  It’s also about raising money for the research that will defeat it.

Do I need my parents permission to enter?

You need to be 18 years or older to enter the event without your parents permission. People under 18 years need their parents to sign the entry form.
