I'm putting my foot down to stop breast cancer in its tracks!
In loving memory of our beautiful Leone McChesney
We lost my beautiful nana, Leone just before Christmas 2023. She passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of December 14th, after she endured a long and difficult battle with Cancer.
Nana was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer in May 2018, this diagnosis was terminal and we were originally given to the end of that year.
However, her strength, determination and fight against this disease gave us a further 5 - 6 years, that we absolutely cherished and were lucky to spend with this one of a kind woman.
Although her cancer originated in her breasts, it continued to spread throughout her body, into her bones and other organs, causing a multitude of other health issues, falls, broken bones and surgeries.
Throughout the entirety of this journey, Nana showed a kind of tenacity and might, that I believe only a few truly have. She always had a smile, never complained and somehow could still pull the rug out from underneath you with her unsuspecting jokes.
She was the backbone to my family. She was not only the life-long partner and loving wife to our Poppy of 65 years, but a Mother of 7 and a Nana/Nanny to many more.
I only dream I can be half the Woman she was, and if I can help give back in any way by raising funds for the incredible & life changing research for Breast Cancer - then that's what I'm going to do!
I have always been a long distance runner, however, I haven't put my "running shoes" on so to speak, since before I found out I was pregnant with my first son Olly in March 2022.
What better reason, to dust of the cobwebs and get back into a sport I love, than getting involved with the Mother's Day Classic.
I will be doing the full 12km this Mother's Day and dedicating all funds raised to the memory of Leone McChesney.
