Support breast and ovarian cancer research in the 2024 Mother’s Day Classic!

Support Lisa (mum), Amy and Beth on our walk to raise awareness and funds for breast and ovarian cancer research!

In 2021, mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. After surgery, radiotherapy and several rounds of chemotherapy, it thankfully hasn't returned, but unfortunately that's not the reality for many women and people with breast cancer. 

The major progress that's been made in breast cancer screening has taken survival rates to beyond 90%. This is a testament to what long-term investment in research funding can do.
But due to the high prevalence of breast cancer, we lose 8 Australians to this disease per day, so clearly there's more work to be done.
Survival rates are much poorer for those diagnosed with the most aggressive subtype, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), and recurrence (when the cancer comes back) occurs in 4 in 10 people with TNBC.

Amy (daughter) got her PhD in ovarian cancer biology in 2020 and is currently working at the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, where she sees the devastating impact of ovarian cancer every day.
With no early detection or screening test, the majority of cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage.
Ovarian cancers also have a tendency to return in up to 80% of advanced-stage cases, at which point they are much harder to treat.
Compounding this issue, ovarian cancer is an extremely complex disease with over 30 different subtypes.
There is clearly much more research that needs to be done, and it's awareness and long-term investment that will get us there.
